Well to finish that discussion it was 3-5-2 in the end.

what you say about width is why I moaned so much about our transfers in the summer. we're so lacking in options once Antonio's missing so to move on Feghouli & Snodgrass without replacements was disgusting but that sums up Sullivan

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
I was thinking the same, Miike. Thing is, we need the two full backs to push on and get some crosses in if we're playing AC. Fuck knows, no one else will.

That seems to me to imply 3 at the back. Fuck knows what Slav's thinking. I've given up trying to work that out.

Anyway, hopefully we'll at least be up for it. Can't be any worse than last time out.

Can it ?

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
that's why I was hoping Kouyate would be kept in central midfield rather than at the back. having him that deep will only welcome more pressure from a very attacking yids line up

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
The problem there is whether it's Fernandes or Lanzini in there, that's a lightweight midfield that Spurs would likely exploit. We'll have to see how they line up in the actual match.

Really looking forward to seeing Rice play. I think we make far too much of our youngsters on here far too soon, but this boy looks the real deal.

Fernandes though ? I just can't see it. He's so lightweight, if he's playing in the middle of the park I fear for us.

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
I thought about Fernandes in the middle, but I like Lanzini in the middle, he will not be as effective on the right (or left). Bilic has played Fernandes on the right (also the middle, obviously). Still what you say would be a good front 3 and I like that Bilic gets the front 3 swapping about alot to gives everyone a chnace in the middle and confuse the defense.... and probably our own team as well...

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
Tbh most of those changes are really pretty obvious. He had to give Byram, Adrian, Ogbonna, Rice, Ayew, Fernandes etc a game.

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
Agreed Mex. I think it might be stronger honestly. I'd switch Fernandes and Lanzini in your positions. I don't like the system too much (if that's what it is) but I like the selection.

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
How will sky sports put us on the pitch then? How about

Adrian
Kouyate Rice Ogbonna
Byram Noble Lanzini Cresswell
Fernandez Carroll Ayew

Looks a good team to me, I do not see it much weaker than Friday. We have a bit of an odd squad, but lots of potential...

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
mart, he was very impressive against the Chelsea youngsters. always in the right position and very strong so it would be typical for Bilic to put him back in midfield or even up front :.)

I reserve the right to be an old miserable negative sod. Because I am. I am like Johnny Painter from the Fast Show when it comes to West Ham nowadays.

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
having watched the last u23 game I think he'll be playing rice in a back four with Kouyate in a midfield five

Re: ex whu employee 9 changes tonight
5 at the back.- it's a 5 whenever we've played it, not a 3, I don't care how Sky show it on a graphic, Cresswell isn't a midfielder - is not the answer until we have a top drawer defensive midfielder. It seems like a conservative option with the extra defender but it is self-defeating as it just ends up putting even more pressure on the defence as none of Noble, Obiang, Kouyate, or God forbid Fernandes or Rice hung out to dry are good enough to control a midfield between only two of them. Lanzini doesn't do enough off the ball to make up for that when playing further forward, nor is neutering him by having him coming deep all the time a solution as we saw last Friday.

If this is a 5 tonight we're in trouble. I sincerely hope that one of Kouyate or Rice is actually in the middle as at least that gives us a fighting chance of disrupting things. Noble and Fernandes will be bypassed all night.

Give it a rest Sir Alf. I'll be cheering from my armchair because I think that is not too bad a reserve midfield.
